Millions of people in #Belarus and #Ukraine were and continue to be exposed to radioactive isotopes. #Cancer cases went up, I am part of that statistic as cancer survivor. #Thyroid gland disfunction has become commonplace, my wife can't function without a daily dose of levothyroxine. Birth defects went up in Belarus and all over Europe. Displacement of hundreds of thousands further accelerated centuries-long demographic decline of Belarus that started with the genocidal #ForgottenWar of 1654.

40 years ago today #Chernobyl nuclear disaster started. In a rush to earn a promo from #Communist party, NPP's chief engineer went on with a reckless test that led to one of the reactors blowing up. With its usual genocidal indifference to #Belarusian and #Ukrainian lives, #Russia's leaders denied scale and public health implications of the disaster, proceeded with their May parades, and, when the radioactive clouds turned towards #Moscow, had them seeded to land 70% of the fallout in #Belarus.

The band that wrote this song is still rotting in a prison in #Belarus. #Lukashenka regime keeps imprisoning, torturing, and killing people over what they did during the 2020 protests and what they kept doing to sabotage #Putin's invasion of #Ukraine. Trump invited Lukashenka and Putin into his #InjusticeLeague #PeaceBoard.

These are not historic parallels. These are battles of the same war, a war #DictatorInternational has been waging on democracy since the second fall of the #RussianEmpire.

The regime turns enforcers into criminals not merely because it needs them to commit crimes, although yes of course it does -- it needs them to have a vested interest in preventing a return of the rule of law.

Same with Trump's tweets about #Iran protests: the instruction to "save the names" was as much a message to the regime's enforcers as it was to the protesters. That death toll is on him, too.
