When all communication breaks down and you reach a point where reaching out no longer has value, the goal becomes warning others.
So let me be blunt: I wanted him to be the last person to see this, in order to buy time.
As shown in the original post screenshot, I reached out and was consistently ignored. I even created a new account, and that was suppressed as well.
I’m also not the only person who has experienced this — so warning others was the point.
22 people have come forward, so it isn't just me. But Jerry from Infosec doesn't want you know this.
So here is a screenshot of what is happening.
The problem is you may be missing people you follow or who wish to follow you, and you don't even know it because he's hiding it all from you.

I don’t know what @jerry has against me, but they always blacklist my account. I’ve asked about it and never received a reply.
From what I understand, they do this to a number of other people — it’s not just me.
The issue is that their 11,000+ users are unaware that their admin filters who they can and cannot follow. It would be one thing if they were filtering out hate speech, spam, and the usual nonsense. But people like me are pro-LGBTQ+, support trans rights and women’s rights, and are more progressive than Bernie Sanders.
If @jerry simply didn’t like me personally, I could respect them blocking me themselves. But the fact that they make that decision for everyone means someone you follow can vanish without notice — and you’d be none the wiser.
People over at InfoSec really do have a censored viewpoint.
The hasthag "Mastodon" and "Fediverse" for example, need approval and has not been updated for 1, 2, and 5 days ago.
I feel sorry for everyone there, because Jerry is no better than Elon Musk. Everything is filtered and all 11,000+ users have no clue.

I recently connected my single-user instance to just 3 new relays to improve federation. This is the infrastructure cost of that visibility.
In just 10 days, my S3 bucket for media storage jumped from roughly 50GB to almost 190GB. The total number of objects doubled, going from 280k to over 560k, and the curve is still going up.
It is fascinating to observe the physical weight of the Fediverse traffic translated into raw data. I will definitely need to configure a stricter media retention policy and tune it to keep this background process from eating my storage budget.

I recently discovered ntfy.sh and it is brilliant in its simplicity. I am currently rewriting my bash scripts to drop AWS SNS in favor of it.
Getting a direct push notification to my phone (and not only this) via a simple curl command is so much cleaner than setting up IAM roles and SNS topics.
I still absolutely love email as a primary protocol, but my inbox really does not need to know every single time a cron job finishes successfully 😅

Dass es den europäischen Regierungen und der EU bei den von ihnen vorangebrachten Alterskontrollen (= Identitätsdatenkontrollen) im Internet nicht um den Jugendschutz sondern um die Kontrolle von Informationszugängen und Kommunikationsräumen geht, zeigt sich gerade wieder beim Vorhaben Frankreichs, auch das dezentrale Fediverse/Mastodon als "Pornographieplattform" einzustufen um es entsprechenden Kontrollen unterwerfen zu können.
Mit dem Argument, dass diese oder jene Kanäle, Plattformen, Programme oder Angebote dafür genutzt werden könnten, neben anderem auch nicht jugendfreie Inhalte zu teilen, wird so ein Vorwand geschaffen, der die umfassende Kontrolle von alledem rechtfertigen soll.

Egal wie (un)sensibel das einem erscheint, das ist eine persönliche Sache. Punkt.
Man kann mit der Entscheidung unzufrieden sein, aber man sollte deswegen keine Vorwürfe äußern. Das ist respektlos, weil damit die Grenzen anderer in Frage gestellt werden, die sich schützen möchten.

By way of an overdue #introduction; I'm rather a simple soul, I mainly enjoy tinkering with #computers, strumming #guitars and a wee bit of #spaniel sitting. I try to post/boost a little bit of everything and anything, including #art, #science, #botany, #transport, #animals, #architecture and #humour, without getting too mired in #politics, although it's not easy to avoid politics when you care about #nature and the #environment. I'm happy to interact with everyone/anyone irrespective of creed, colour, nationality or gender/sexual preferences. In the nicest sense of the word, I really don't give a fuck what you are. I consider myself to be a floating voter of centre/left leaning persuasion. I support the notion of managed #degrowth and #social responsibility. I would rather discuss the common ground we share and aim to respect our differences. I try to avoid fuckwits wherever I encounter them. It's great that the language selection button changes color when it detects the toot is not in the default language, but I'm afraid too many users are colorblind because they appear no the see to button. The language should change automatically or popup a question about it #fediverse

I've never tried to hide that I want to build up my side business of translating old German folk tales into a significant side income. "Quit your day job" levels are unrealistic, since my day job pays decently and I quite like the benefits, but maybe it will be possible to work reduced hours one day.
Currently, I earn about €200 per month. I do have some expenses - commissing cover illustrations, hiring a copywriter, and pay for domain and website maintenance (which has gotten more expensive as of late - thanks, #LLM scrapers!).

Right now, my books are primarily a marketing tool for my Patreon campaign, although I do get some money from them.

Even though I haven't released a new book since 2022, book sales haven't declined nearly as much as is usual for books. I assume that this means that knowledge of their existence is spread by word of mouth - thanks to everyone who has recommended them to others! Still, I really need to get "Old Goatfoot" out (the next book) - and I have enough material to start on the manuscripts for "Magic in Theory and Malpractice" and "Unnatural Taxonomies" as well (with "Spirits in Motion" not far behind). While publishing my weekly translations on Patreon remains the first priority, this is the second highest one.

Speaking of my Patreon campaign, it has generally plateaued since its high point in 2023. I suspect the reason for this, too, is the lack of new books, which are the visible representation of all the work I do. If my people see more of my books on the shelves, they will be more intrigued in the early release material I publish there.
And once my Patreon campaign grows big enough, I hope to use it to pay for custom illustrations for the tales - but alas, I am not there yet.
But of course, I do further marketing beyond selling books. After I abandoned/fled Twitter, I focused on #Mastodon as my primary marketing tool. I tried a #Facebook page for two years or so, but that was a waste of time - I never attracted even a hundred followers, and I refused to pay Meta for advertising. Better to stick to the #Fediverse, where there is no algorithm that hates you.
Still, even my Mastodon-based approach has seen some refinement. I used to share my tales as screenshots, but that was not ideal from an accessibility point of view. Thus, I spent seven months on building up a wiki repository, and now share invididual tales as links:

This required a lot of effort which distracted me from working on the book manuscripts. But now it is functionally complete, and I think the end result is worth it.

Whatever you do, do not look up his email address. You might accidentally discover that the creator of this "secure, privacy-first alternative to Proton Mail" registers his businesses using a standard @gmail.com account (with traces of a @yandex.ru address elsewhere).
You might also notice that this is just one of many €1 shell companies registered under the exact same contact. The digital footprint is fascinating. A true masterclass in privacy and operational security.

I recently stumbled upon a new privacy-focused email provider called atomicmail.io. You may have heard of them already.
The landing page is very convincing, full of aggressive comparisons to Proton Mail, Tuta, GMail and others.
But there is zero information about the people behind the product. Just an anonymous "team of enthusiasts and developers".
I decided to do a quick audit of their legal entity. It turns out the registered share capital of this company is exactly €1.
Well, that completely clears up any doubts about trusting them with my private data. Absolutely bulletproof.

Schweigen zu bringen ist nicht besser als die ganzen Nazis, die das Tag täglich versuchen.
Und auch im #Fediverse herrscht die Empörungskultur. Auch da unterscheidet es sich nicht von den anderen Social Media Netzwerken. Auch hier werden Menschen sofort, ohne nachzudenken, verurteilt für das was sie schreiben. Verurteilt ohne Vorgeschichten, Hintergründe und Zusammenhänge zu kennen. Verurteilt, indem man in Geschriebenes einfach etwas hinein dichtet, ohne das es geschrieben worden ist. Es ist wichtiger den Empörungsreflex zu befriedigen, als den Menschen zu verstehen. Oder es wenigstens zu versuchen. Aufschrei ist das worum es geht. Empörung. Laut sein. Und wenn man es dann schafft, dass andere mit einstimmen, umso besser. Dann kann man ja so falsch nicht gelegen haben, oder?
Das einzige, was hier im Fediverse besser ist: Es gibt hier keine Algorithmen, die diese Berufsempörer auch noch verstärken. Ihnen auch noch Reichweite geben, wie in den BigTech Social Media Netzwerken, wo (2/3)
es nur im den Klick geht.
Du fühlst dich von dem geschriebenen getriggert und möchtest dem Reflex nachgeben auf mich einzuprügeln. Dann bist du wahrscheinlich genau damit gemeint, wenn du dich angesprochen fühlst. Dann bist du wahrscheinlich Teil des Problems.
Gib mal zur Abwechslung deinem Reflex nicht nach, sondern denke statt dessen nach. Lass das Geschriebene mal wirken.
Verurteile es nicht sondern beurteile es. Bewerte es mal neutral. Gehe mal in dich. Lehn dich zurück, chill mal eine Runde und schlaf mal eine Nacht drüber. Beobachte mal mit ein wenig Abstand das ganze Treiben.
Dann wirst auch du sicherlich merken: Das #Fediverse ist am Ende auch nur ein Social Media Netzwerk wie jedes Andere. Anders, aber nicht wirklich besser.

Wir wollen hier gerne das andere, das bessere Social Media Netzwerk sein. Aber ist das so?
Ich denke nein. Anders? Ja! Besser? Nein.
Was hier anders ist, ist dass es die Faschisten und Nazis bisher nicht schaffen hier Fuß zu fassen. Und das ist wirklich gut.
Aber warum ist es dann nicht besser?
Weil es am Ende hier eben doch genauso läuft wie in den anderen Social Media Netzwerken auch.
Meinungen werden hier versucht zu unterdrücken. Das ist mir in den letzten 5 Wochen ziemlich deutlich geworden. Menschen mit anderer Meinung versucht man hier genauso mundtot zu machen wie in anderen Netzwerken auch. ANDERE Meinung! Nicht ungesetzlich oder faschistisch. Nur anders. Unangenehm, ja. Aber nicht mehr. Meinungsfreiheit ist manchmal schwer auszuhalten. Das geht mir auch so. Das Problem an Föderierten Netzen ist, dass sie zwar in der Theorie Möglichkeiten bieten, Leute auszuschließen, aber es in der Praxis daran scheitert, dass Menschen sich doch über Followerzahlen definieren und deshalb nicht gewillt sind, Menschen auszuschließen.
