DOLLA is my favourite girl group. Yeah, they are going through challenges which Malaysian people, especially with their kind of moral values, are against and do not represent theirs. I'm not sure if their motive is not to make DOLLA exist freely or maybe coercion or something? I don't know.

                  Nutcracker Suite
                  1949 U.S. 3x7” Box Set @
                  Red vinyl

Slipping back into with a WONDERFUL find from today!

This 3x7” box of The Nutcracker Suite is AUTO-COUPLED, so sides 1 & 6 are on the same record, so on & so forth.

When I was VERY young, my 3rd grade class went on a field trip to see The Nutcracker performed at the Wang Theatre in , & my tiny adolescent mind was blown away. The music has stuck with me my whole life. When I hear it, I’m instantly transported back into that theatre.
To find such a unique version of it is special for me. Records are in great shape, too!

A cool no random thing found in the box:

What looks to be a radio permit/ private receiving station license from Vancouver: dated and signed May 5th, 1949.
                  Pretty cool, man.

You just never know what you’re gonna find inside a used record.

                                            Jimi Hendrix. Electric Ladyland

Jimi Hendrix's third & final studio album was a massive step from his first two (but still brilliant) LPs. Ranging from the cover of All Along the Watchtower (that prompted Bob Dylan to adopt the Hendrix arrangement live) to the experimental tracks with backwards guitars & other effects, this is another LP that changed what one might do in the studio. It still sounds unlike anything else!

                                                      1986 Europe pressing

One of the all-time great songwriters of all time, and yet, criminally underrated.

I love and miss Tommy so much. Dude was an incredible songwriter, and based on the handful of times I was around him, one hell of a nice dude.

This album has Tommy’s signature song on it, the opener “Places That Are Gone”, a shimmering, jangly gem of a song. The version here is a bigger, shiner, more punchy and produced version than the one that appeared on his 1984 E.P., also titled Places That Are Gone.

Lots of other riches on this album besides that great tune.
Gold Town, Paper Words And Lies, As Life Goes By, and My Mother Looked Like Marilyn Monroe… all stellar songs from an expert musical craftsman.

It was rough day for me when Tommy died. Just a wonderful dude to know, and whose music supplied me with so much joy over the years.

As somebody who experienced that decade in real time as a teenager, this book is just phenomenal.
                                                        I’ve thoroughly been enjoying it.

Having a wonderfully nostalgic evening by backing up more of my CD collection. Finally ditching Apple Music and using the Linux app combination of K3b & Kid3 to rip and refine the ID3 tags, plus Lollypop as my music library player. Ripping like it’s 2005 😁

I finished Christmas shopping this morning, & I need a break from the barrage of Christmas music I’ve experienced over the past few weeks.

Don’t get me wrong. I love Christmas music. But there’s a breaking point. And I’ve reached it.

So… can’t think of a more polar opposite to Christmas music than the CROWES.

A band I have ALWAYS loved. For me, they are the last great PURE American rock roll band.

Amorica has always going to be my personal favorite.
Gone, A Conspiracy, Ballad In Urgency, Wiser Time…all classic Crowes jams.

This was the most toxic and indulgent the Crowes ever were. It’s amazing how good the record is considering the amount of cocaine everybody was doing. The sessions were erratic, unfocused and difficult due to the devil’s dandruff, which you can hear in the murky, sweaty sound of the record. But MAN does it ever work.
